FAQ’s

Planning a ceremony often brings up practical questions — about the process, the possibilities, and what to expect along the way. This section gathers the answers to the things people most often want to know, whether you’re arranging a wedding, a funeral, a celebration of life, a naming ceremony, or a renewal of vows. It’s here to offer clarity, reassurance, and a sense of how your ceremony might unfold with ease.  It is certainly not exhaustive, but a good starter for 10!

What does an independent celebrant do?

An independent celebrant creates and leads personalised ceremonies that reflect your story, values, beliefs, and wishes — without restrictions or doctrinal limits. Every ceremony is written from scratch and shaped collaboratively with you.

Yes. I welcome all people — all backgrounds, identities, family structures, beliefs, and all ways of celebrating life’s moments.

Anywhere that feels right: gardens, barns, beaches, chapels, crematoria, family homes, woodland clearings, rooftops, favourite pubs, or meaningful places across Somerset and the surrounding counties.

Absolutely. You can include prayers, blessings, readings, rituals, or none at all.

Yes. I regularly travel across the South West and am happy to discuss ceremonies further afield or abroad.

Weddings

Are you legally authorised to marry us?

In England and Wales, celebrant‑led weddings are not yet legally binding. Most couples complete the legal paperwork at a registry office and have their wedding ceremony with me — the one with meaning, personality, and connection.

Yes, we talk ideally in person or online, whatever feels easiest at the time. This conversation gives you space to share stories, memories, and the details that matter most. I listen carefully, ask gentle questions, and help you shape the tone of the ceremony — whether that’s quiet and reflective, warm and uplifting, or a blend of both. It’s also a moment for you to breathe, feel supported, and know that everything is being held with care.

I make every ceremony personal by taking the time to truly understand you. Through thoughtful conversations, a few gentle questions, and space for you to share what matters most, I get to know your story, your relationship, and the tone you want to set. From there, I shape a ceremony where every word is chosen with care — tailored to you, your values, and the moment you’re marking. With a sprinkle of humour, or belly busting laughter, I keep things real and add just enough heart to make the moments matter feel truly felt.

Yes. Handfasting, candle lighting, ring warming, unity rituals, cultural traditions, or something entirely original. I help you choose or design rituals that feel meaningful.

Yes. I can write the full eulogy for you, or help shape the words you already have. I listen carefully to the stories, memories, and small details that bring a person’s character to life, and then craft a tribute that feels honest, balanced, and connected. You’ll always have the chance to read it beforehand, make changes, or add anything that feels important. My aim is to create something that feels true to them — and supportive for you

Yes, if you’d like one. I can also provide a detailed run‑through for your venue or coordinator.

Funerals, Celebrations of Life & Memorials.

How quickly can you support us with a funeral

Funeral timelines can be short. I prioritise families in need and can usually meet, plan, and write the ceremony within a matter of days.

Yes — whether days, weeks, months, or years after the death. These can be reflective, joyful, symbolic, or a mix of all three.

Naming Ceremonies

Are naming ceremonies only for babies?

Not at all. They can celebrate babies, older children, adoptions, blended families, or adults marking a new name or chapter in life.

Yes.  Guideparent promises, candle lighting, treeplanting, keepsake rituals or any other symbolic gestures you would like to include.

Absolutely. Naming ceremonies can be joyful, playful, heartfelt, or a blend of all three.

Renewal of Vows

Why do couples renew their vows?

To celebrate milestones, honour a journey, reconnect after change, or simply because love deserves to be witnessed again.

Yes — or write new ones, or blend both. I help you shape words that feel true to who you are now.

Of course. Children, grandchildren, friends, or chosen family can take part through readings, rituals, or shared moments.

The Process

How does the planning process work?

We begin with a conversation, explore what matters most, and shape the ceremony together. You receive drafts, guidance, and full support until every word feels right.

Yes. Nothing is read on the day that you haven’t seen and approved.

Typically 20–40 minutes, depending on readings, rituals, and personal elements.

Yes — a beautifully formatted version for you to keep.

Practicalities

What do you wear?

I dress in a way that complements your setting — elegant, understated, and appropriate for the tone of the ceremony. I will also happily compliment or embrace the colour of the day, if requested

Yes. I hold full public liability and professional indemnity insurance.

Fees vary depending on the ceremony type and location. I provide a clear, transparent quote with no hidden costs.

Via the contact page, email or by phone, we can talk through what you’re hoping for, and make sure I’m the right celebrant for you. If it feels like a good fit, I’ll send over a clear outline of the next steps, along with everything you need to secure your date. No pressure, no hard sell — just a warm, human start to the process.
